Donna lives in Calgary, Alberta where she works full time as an artist and art instructor.
Although she is primarily self taught, Donna attends several workshops and classes a year including those of well known local artists Jean Pedersen, Karin Richter and Doug Swinton. She recently traveled to Colorado to attend workshops from master painters Daniel Gerhartz, Scott Burdick, Sherrie McGraw, Carolyn Anderson and Kim English whose work is an inspiration. She believes in the continued study of weekly life drawing as a way to keep her artistic eye trained.
As an added bonus painting has provided relief from almost daily migraines which she has suffered for over thirty years. She believes she is doing what she was always meant to do and feels blessed to follow her dreams.
As a way of "paying it forward" Donna contributes 10% of her profits from the sale of her paintings to Kiva, an organization that provides loans to people in third work contries to start or expand a business. "I think it is a wonderful way to feel like I am making a difference in someone's life!"
In 2011 she was a finalist in the Richeson 75 Competition in Wisconsin and the Canadian Brushstrokes Magazine and took home 2nd Place for "The Photographer" in the Canadian Federation of Artists Calgary Branch Exhibition . In 2010 her painting "Christmas Bundles" was chosen as part of the 2010 TPH Charitable Greeting Card Campaign which helped to raise $66,000 for Canadian children in need. "Pond Essentials" has been chosen for their upcoming 2011 Campaign.
Her work is included in the Calgary Flames Rotary House Collection as well as in private collections across Canada and the United States.
